I drove my Z without AC for the first 10 years or so of ownership and finally got fed up and went about diagnosing the issue. Found a big hole in the condenser, found a replacement in a junkyard down south, replaced all the system o-rings, installed adapters, drained the compressor oil + filled with whatever correct oil was, pulled vacuum, filled with R134a and have pretty decent AC. It's not ice cold, but it keeps me cool on a 85F sunny day, even with the R12 condenser. I do live in WI for what its worth. If I was down south and drove the car more; I would have looked longer for a R134a (94+) condenser.
